Alerts and integrations

MailSolid warns you when a watched domain changes or when the DMARC reports show a problem. You choose what reaches you by email, and the owner or the admins can send the same alerts to Slack, Teams and other destinations.

MailSolid · User guideReviewed for version 0.19.4

Who can do it: each member chooses their own email alerts. Destinations (integrations) are managed by the owner and the admins, and your plan must include integrations.

Before you start: alerts come from Monitoring (watched domains) and from DMARC. With no watched domains and no DMARC reports, there is nothing to alert about.

  • Alerts (at the top of the sidebar) gathers recent changes of your watched domains and DMARC alerts, newest first. Opening an alert shows its details in a dialog and marks only that alert as read. For record changes, you can see the previous and new values. The dialog button takes you to the domain in Monitoring or the relevant DMARC source, selector or section. Close it with Close or Escape. Read state is personal to you and this workspace, and syncs between your devices when you open or return to the app; it does not mark colleagues’ alerts. Mark all as seen marks the rest. If you are offline, pending status offers a retry. If your browser blocks storage, keep this tab open until it syncs. Old browser-only read marks may reappear once.
  • Announcements from MailSolid (a new feature, an offer or a service notice) also arrive in Alerts, with their own dot until you read them. An important one can also show as a bar above the page; close it and it does not come back. Announcements never change anything in your workspace.
  • Monitoring shows each change of a domain with its history.
  • Email reaches whoever has it turned on, in the language of their console (Spanish or English).
  • Destinations (Slack, Teams, etc.), if the workspace has any.

Your preferences are yours alone and apply to one workspace. There is one section per workspace.

  1. Open your account menu and go to My account, or press Alert preferences in Monitoring.
  2. Find the section Alerts for followed by the workspace name.
  3. Change what you want and press Save preferences.
Control What it does
Email me when a watched domain changes Turns the Monitoring emails on or off.
Alert me from this severity Critical only, High and critical, Medium and above, Low and above or Everything. Fixes and improvements are always emailed to you if we told you about the problem; everything stays in Monitoring.
Email me the weekly summary of my domains A weekly email with the state of your domains and what changed in the last 7 days, plus the DMARC reports. It arrives on Mondays (with the default settings, at 08:00; two hours after the daily check, in the workspace time zone) and carries a link to unsubscribe.
Email me when the DMARC reports show a problem Turns the DMARC emails on or off.

The weekly summary also depends on a workspace setting (Settings, Monitoring group, Weekly summary), which the owner and the admins change.

Under each switch there is another switch per alert type. Turn it off to stop getting that type by email; everything else stays the same. Muted alerts still show in the console and go to your integrations.

Family Types
Watched domains Problems found when monitoring starts; Brand certificate (BIMI) about to expire.
DMARC New sending sources that fail; Sources that start failing; Possible spoofing; Reports that stop arriving; DKIM signatures that start failing; Weak DKIM keys; SPF records with errors.
Hosted DMARC Hosted record lost its CNAME; Hosted record cannot be activated; Hosted record moved to another workspace; Hosted change not published; Pending hosted change discarded while frozen.

The alert that a hosted record is no longer managed cannot be muted by type: it reminds you when the policy still being published will be removed. Keeping the CNAME after that date can leave the domain without DMARC.

DMARC alert emails carry the Silence this type of alert link, which takes you to that switch already highlighted. The other Monitoring changes (got worse, got better, fixed) cannot be muted by type: they are controlled with the minimum severity.

In Monitoring, each change says what happened to your email:

  • Email accepted by the provider. Delivery is not confirmed.
  • Email filtered, with the reason: your monitoring emails are off, it is below your minimum severity, you muted that type, that alert was already processed recently, there was no earlier expiry alert recorded for you, or sending is paused.
  • Email could not be sent.
  • Email result uncertain; not resent to avoid duplicates.
  • Email: no recorded result, for changes older than this feature.

Destinations receive the alerts of the workspace besides email.

  1. Open Settings and go to the Integrations tab (owner and admins only).
  2. Under Add a destination, choose the type. Each one comes with the steps to set it up.
  3. Fill in the details and give it a name, to tell it apart from the others.
  4. Under Alerts to send, choose Changes in watched domains (and from which severity) and/or DMARC alerts. Each alert reaches each destination once, with a link to the console.
  5. Choose the language of the alerts and press Add destination.
  6. Press Send test and check that the test alert arrived.
Destination What it does
Slack Posts each alert to a channel. With Add to Slack you pick the channel in Slack; you can also use a webhook URL.
Microsoft Teams Posts each alert to a channel, as a card, through a Teams workflow.
Telegram Posts each alert to a group, channel or chat, with a bot.
Webhook Sends each alert as signed JSON to your own HTTPS endpoint, signed with Standard Webhooks (standardwebhooks.com) (webhook-id, webhook-timestamp and webhook-signature), so any Standard Webhooks library can check it. When you create it we show you the signing secret only once: save it, because we cannot show it again (if you lose it, regenerate it). Webhooks created before this change keep their X-Chk-Signature until you regenerate the secret.
HaloPSA, SuperOps, Alga PSA (Beta) Open a ticket for each alert.

From the list of destinations you can Edit, Pause (it gets no alerts until you Resume it) and Delete (it cannot be undone; to use it again, you have to add it again). Each destination shows its state (Active, Paused or Has an error) and its Last delivery. Tests are limited to 10 per hour and destination.

Under Domains for this destination, choose all workspace domains, no domains, or selected domains and groups. Existing destinations keep all domains. Membership is exact: selecting example.com does not include sub.example.com. Alert types and minimum severity still apply.

Manage domain groups lets owners and administrators save a name, colour, context and domain list. Changing that list also changes which domains send alerts to destinations using the group. An empty group does not receive automatic alerts. Before deleting a group, remove it from every destination, including paused ones. If a teammate changed something while you were editing, reload the current version before saving again.

No domains blocks automatic alerts for that destination; Send test remains available as an explicit manual action. Grouping does not start monitoring or change DNS. This selection configures shared destinations, not members’ personal email preferences.

  • The destination shows “Has an error”: the last alert or test could not be delivered, and the screen explains the known cause. Depending on the case, the destination keeps getting new alerts or gets none until you change its settings or send a test that works; the screen itself tells you which.
  • “We kept trying for 24 hours without success and gave up on that alert”: the destination did not answer within that time. Fix the destination; the lost alert stays in the console.
  • The destination answers with a redirect: we do not follow redirects; use the final address.
  • “This workspace has N destinations, the most your plan allows”: delete one to add another.
  • “Your plan does not include integrations”: saved destinations stay there, but they get no alerts.
  • Destinations of every workspace are paused: the MailSolid team paused them for now. Alerts wait and go out when the pause ends; the ones older than 24 hours are dropped.
  • No email reaches me: check that the switch is on, your minimum severity and the muted types in your preferences.

Do my teammates’ alerts depend on mine? No. Each member has their own preferences; destinations have theirs.

Who gets the weekly summary? The members who have it turned on, if the workspace has watched domains or DMARC domains.
